Lita Ford Concert Review - 10/20/2012

To see more pictures from the concert, click here.

You hear that sound? That is the sound of I, me, JessieLou, the greatest radio DJ in the world, having THE GREATEST NIGHT OF HER LIFE at Lita Ford's free concert at Biketoberfest in Destination Daytona (Ormond, FL) on October 20th, 2012.

For those who do not know or remember the story as to how I got into Lita's music to begin with, I was first introduced to her in October 2006 when I heard her song, “Kiss Me Deadly” on an American Top 40 w/ Casey Kasem countdown show. Not gonna lie, when I first heard it I thought it was just okay. But a couple months later (June 2007), I was reading about The Runaways (I've always been a Joan Jett fan), and I read that Lita Ford was also a member of the band so it made me curious to check out some of her other music. I downloaded some songs of hers – “Cherry Red” (1990), “Shot Of Poison” (1991), “Black Widow” (1991), “Dressed To Kill” (1984), and her cover of Alice Cooper's “Only Women Bleed” (1990), and I was hooked. However, it wasn't until about a month later when I started going downright PSYCHO over her. Whenever I work out I always have Music Choice on, and one day before I started my workout I put on the Arena Rock (now Retro Rock) station and they were playing her 1984 single, “Gotta Let Go”. I caught like the last minute of it and I was thinking to myself, “OMG I need to download this onto my computer PRONTO!” I remember throughout that whole workout session I couldn't get that song out of my head and once I was done I rushed back onto my computer and downloaded it… pronto. The thing is though, I don't want to get into too much detail about it but 2007 was a pretty difficult year for me, and in the 2007-2008 school year I temporarily transferred to a different, smaller school where I was bullied by almost every other student that attended and Lita's music was always there for me to help me feel better. So yeah, that is why her music has such a dear place in my heart. There are a lot of musicians who mean a lot to me, like Alanis and Madonna, both of whom I've pretty much been a fan of since I was in diapers, so the fact that Lita is my #1 artist says A LOT. Oh, and for the record, I eventually grew to LOVE “Kiss Me Deadly”.

I got to the venue super early which I wanted to as I wanted to get really close to the stage, although it was a bit difficult because even though I was VERY close, I'm also really short (5'2 to be specific). The show started at 9:00PM and when Lita came out and started performing her cover of Elton John's "The Bitch Is Back", I was blown away. I was finally seeing my queen. She was right in front of me being all flawless and queen-like. It was seriously a dream come true for me. Not to mention she looked beautiful as always! Oh and yes, I was singing along to EVERY SINGLE SONG. I never realized it until last night but I actually know the entire lyrics to almost all of her songs.

The next song she did was "Hungry" off my all-time favorite Lita album, 1990's Stiletto, and I was still being blown away and struggling to take pictures because of my height. After “Hungry”, she did her first mic break (I think that's what they call it?), and she just seemed so sweet and you could just tell she enjoyed being there. She was funny too! At one point she was drinking a coffee and jokingly said it was a cocktail. Then she went into one of the new tracks, “Relentless”. This was the only song I took video of because I forgot how to take video on my camera, this video was actually taken on my iPod Touch.

I thought it was extremely cool that the guitars she was playing were the EXACT SAME GUITARS she played in her older videos and concert footage. The red guitar with her name on it was the exact one in videos like “Kiss Me Deadly” and “Back To The Cave”. Next, she performed my 14-week #1 smash, “Living Like A Runaway”, and during that performance, there was this couple in front of me and I guess they saw how I was struggling to take good pictures because of my height, but they were nice enough to let me go in front of them so I can be even CLOSER to my queen! From this point on I had no problem taking pictures so YAY ME!

From this point on I don't remember the exact order of the setlist but I remember every song she played – she performed “Gotta Let Go” (I was REALLLY happy when she performed this!), “Back To The Cave” (which she was singing as “Back To Daytona”, I thought that was cute lol), “Out For Blood” (her debut single!), and two album tracks that I was very surprised she performed – “Under The Gun” and “Dancin' On The Edge”. At one point during the concert she was throwing guitar picks to the crowd and I was trying to get one SO badly but I didn't, meh. HOWEVER, during “Dancin' On The Edge”, I am pretty positive that she was POINTING RIGHT AT ME!! OMG SHE SAW ME SING HER SONGS AHHHH. I was trying to keep this review as professional as possible and I know I'm not doing a good job at that, LOL.

I really felt like a hardcore fan at this show because when she introduced “Devil In My Head”, she said, “this next song goes like this” and she started singing the chorus in acapella form and I knew right away what song it was and I was singing along right with her! “Devil” is my favorite song on Living Like A Runaway and was definitely one of my favorite performances of the night! Speaking of the new album, she also performed the track “Hate”, and when she introduced it she said, “I don't know if you guys have heard my new album…” and I shouted out, “IT'S AMAZING!” After she performed the Lemmy-penned “Can't Catch Me”, she said that now all the teenagers in the audience are going to go on Twitter and write, “who the fuck is Lemmy?” which was funny but SO true! I'm sure it happened considering that teenagers on Twitter have also asked who Paul McCartney is and why Gwen Stefani is in a band now. DID I ALSO MENTION SHE POINTED RIGHT AT ME?!?!?!

The next song she did was none other than my favorite song of all-time, "Close My Eyes Forever". She sang both her and Ozzy's parts but she asked the audience for some help as well and it was fun! She ended the show with "Kiss Me Deadly" and a cover of Steppenwolf's "Born To Be Wild".

In conclusion, not only was that the greatest concert I have ever been to, but it was also the greatest night of my life. Her vocals and guitar work were flawless, epic, and legendary as always because she is QUEEN LITA FORD. She put on such an amazing show and words cannot explain how happy that whole experience made me. I rate the show an A+++++++++++++
